Safety Tips for Poison Prevention Another year gone by, so clean your cabinets of old medicines. Check the date of prescription and non prescription drugs, those expired or ready to expire please discard. Keep all household products and medicines locked up, out of sight and out of reach to your children. Use child resistant packaging on all products and cabinets. After household products are used make sure that they are locked or closed as soon as you finish using them. This will help prevent accidents. Be careful with lamps that contain oil, candles, matches, garden control, ant or roach or rat poison. Make sure all of these are locked or out of reach of children. Teach children what medicine is and what candy is. Do not mix medicine stating it is like candy. If you suspect that your child was poisoned, call poison control immediately.
